The Story that Only Speaks when you Listen.. So this month we are in the final stages of one our community literature pieces..a hand illustrated book on 32 plants of the region; a fusion of Zapotec and modern wisdom and some beautiful stories from some of the locals on their story with plants. This book is a labour of love over the past 2 years…running after Dona Salustiana in her steep mountainside garden; a feast of bright colour, struggling to keep up as her plants move and dance rivers of wisdom from her mouth. Quietly listening with a cup of hot coffee as Don Faustino shares his personal struggles with god as a vital part of his healing work. Falling over in hysterics as we try to pronounce the Zapotec word for Rosemary (Cua-de Ibhe!) for the fiftieth time.. And more than anything, witnessing a deep ancient language new to our understanding; a culture not bred and valued on words. Where stories are told through actions, hands, smiles, silence. The names
